OHAWE - Storybook 2023
The One Health Collaborating Center (OHCC) at Udayana University has been given the opportunity to collaborate with the International Alliance Against Health Risks in Wildlife Trade (implemented by The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) to initiate the program "The Application of One Health Approach to Raise Wildlife Protection Awareness in Indonesia" (OHAWE). This program applies the One Health approach to increase awareness of wildlife protection in Indonesia. Udayana OHCC involves other OHCC networks under the Indonesia One Health University Network (INDOHUN), specifically Syiah Kuala University Aceh, Cenderawasih University Papua, Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta, and Airlangga University East Java.
By emphasizing an innovative approach and local culture, the storybooks, presented in three languages—Indonesian, a local regional language, and English—will provide adequate insight to children in these areas about wildlife trade occurring in their regions and across Indonesia, as well as its various risks. Additionally, children are expected to be able to make more changes once they develop a sense of respect and appreciation for wildlife conservation from an early age. The success of this project paves the way for its continuation into a second year, with a focus on expanding its scope and enhancing the impact of the messages conveyed.
