OHAWE - Storybook 2025
After a successful first year, Udayana One Health Collaborating Center (OHC) was given the opportunity to collaborate once again with the International Alliance Against Health Risks in Wildlife Trade (implemented by The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) to intiate a second year program "The Application of One Health Approach to Raise Wildlife Protection Awareness in Indonesia" (OHAWE). This program applies One Health approach to increase awareness in wildlife protection in Indonesia involving OHCC networks under INDOHUN.
Through a creative approach utilizing local culture to create children's storybooks for 4th-6th grade elementary school students, OHCC Udayana University collaborated with IPB University (Bogor Agricultural Institute), Hasanuddin University in South Sulawesi, the Faculty of Medicine at Riau University through its Veterinary Medicine Study Program, and the Kupang City Education and Culture Office. By implementing the program in several regions, efforts to increase public knowledge and awareness regarding the risks and threats of wildlife trade can be conveyed on a massive scale. Through this collaboration, each region produced one children's storybook in three languages: Indonesian, English, and the respective regional language. Each region also staged the story through a Storytelling Event using various media such as hand puppets, masks, and theater.
